Prawn Trawl Nets Prawn trawling is regarded as an active fishing method, based on the towing of nets. The nets basically consits of a cone or funnel-shaped body extended at the opening by wings, and leading to a bag or "codend". The object of prawn trawling is to spread the nets as wide as possible in an attempt to maximise the area swept per hour.                                GNM's NET SHED                The production of a trawler is based on its engineering performance which is defined as swept area per unit time. It is a worldwide problem. GNM is determined to ensure that Australia's prawn fisheries have access to the best technology available in an attempt to reduce bycatch. GNM's research and Development arm has invested much money and time in developing and testing these devices. In conjunction with local fishermen we have designed devices based on different conditions, with a great deal of success. So, GNM customers enjoy the benefits of reduced bycatch. Gillnets - Barra & Shark                  TRY BOARDS FOR PRAWN TRAWL Gillnets are single wall panels of net held vertical in the water column relying on fish encountering them and becoming meshed and retained. Gillnets have a high rate of selectivity that is dependent on external morphology, especially the opercular diameter as well as body shape. GNM custom build gillnets to suit species selection and as such produce the most efficient nets available.
